Why GI steel, not aluminium.
Alunova channels are made from galvanised iron (GI), not aluminium. Here's what that choice actually buys you.
Strength of sections
GI is around three times denser than aluminium and has a much higher Young's modulus, which means higher strength and better screw retention.
Density: GI 8050 kg/m³ vs aluminium 2700 kg/m³
Fire performance
GI has a much higher melting point and lower thermal conductivity than aluminium, giving it a meaningfully better fire rating.
Melting point: GI 1500°C vs aluminium 650°C
Screw retention
GI is stiffer and less malleable than aluminium, so screws bite in and hold firm under repeated loading.
Higher stiffness, better cyclic-load performance
Cost to strength
Matching GI's strength in aluminium needs more material, which raises cost without matching the performance. GI delivers more strength for the price.

What does the Alunova system include?
The system includes four components: Perimeter Channel, Ceiling Section, L Angle and Intermediate Channel.
What thicknesses are available?
Perimeter, Ceiling Section and L Angle are available in 0.35 mm and 0.40 mm.
Intermediate Channel is available in 0.45 mm and 0.50 mm.

What is the role of metal framing in a false ceiling?
Metal framing is the backbone of a false ceiling — it carries the load of the whole system, so good-quality framing is what makes a ceiling strong and long-lasting.
Alunova frames are made from galvanised iron (GI), which doesn't burn. Ceilings can be designed for up to 2 hours of fire resistance, something wood, timber or aluminium framing can't match — wood burns, and aluminium melts at a much lower temperature than GI.
What's special about Alunova frames?
Alunova sections are made from GI sourced only from reputed steel manufacturers, and every batch goes through stringent quality checks for consistent performance. Some of our metal-forming processes are patent-pending, built to give you better value.
Can I hang lights or AC ducts from the ceiling?
Alunova metal ceiling systems are designed to carry the weight of gypsum board and small light fixtures.
AC ducts shouldn't be hung from Alunova framing, though — they're not designed for that load, and the vibration from a duct can carry through to the ceiling.
Will the metal framing corrode?
Our framing is protected with a zinc or alu-zinc coating — always check the coating thickness before you buy. Both Alunova Prime and Alunova Classic are coated for strong corrosion protection, built to last.
